A Race for Opportunity
26.2 Miles.
$100,000.
A Pathway to a
Union Career.
Bernard isn’t simply running 26.2 miles—
he’s using every mile to help someone start a career.
Benefiting Pathways to Apprenticeship New Jersey
This November,
Bernard Callegari is running the New York City Marathon for MORE than crossing a finish line.
He’s running to raise $100,000 for Pathways to Apprenticeship New Jersey and help more people reach their own finish line. Before this, he had never run more than 5 miles at once, but that won’t stop him. He is determined to make a difference and needs our help.
P2ANJ works with people from communities historically underrepresented in the union construction trades—including people of color, women and justice-affected individuals—helping them overcome barriers, prepare for apprenticeship, and pursue careers in the union building trades. 100% of our last P2A class was successfully placed in a union apprenticeship program.
A union apprenticeship can be the beginning of something much bigger: a career. Good wages, benefits, skills, security, and the opportunity to build a better future. That’s why Bernard is running.
Everyone deserves an opportunity for a career, but not everyone begins at the same starting line. Pathways to Apprenticeship New Jersey is the non-profit that helps launch careers regardless of the challenges. It gains energy from the old saying: “It isn’t where you start, but where you finish.”
Over the weeks ahead, Bernard will share the journey—from the first training miles to 26.2 miles through the five boroughs of New York City.
But he can’t reach this finish line alone.

If there is a single person willing to donate $100,000, we’d sure love to speak with you. True to his union values, however Bernard feels the real path to success is in numbers–everyone doing their share. We’re looking for 1,000 people to give $100 toward Bernard’s $100,000 goal. Crazy idea? Perhaps. Are you ready to do something crazy and actually help people launch careers in the Union Building Trades? We sure hope so!
